Staff Sgt. Vennessa Camacho, 7th Force Support Squadron, leads a Zumba class Monday through Thursday each week at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas.

Zumba is a fitness program that involves dance and aerobic elements.

"There are tons of women and men who join us," said Camacho. "We do a cardio workout to international music, Latin music and some hits that are on the radio today."

For many participants, Zumba adds a change to their normal routine.

"It breaks up my routine of running," said Staff Sgt. Ivory Mosher, 7th Aerospace Medicine Squadron. "I do a lot of running and elliptical stuff and I get bored. Zumba allows me to do a cardio workout without having to run around a track or on the treadmill."

"People tend to get bored with their everyday routine," Camacho said. "Not everybody likes to do pushups, sit-ups and run 24/7. This offers something different. When you come here it's not a consistent routine, it changes up every time."

One of the biggest attractions for participants is the atmosphere in the class.

"Just remember that Zumba is all about fun," Camacho said. "It's not like in the weight room where everyone is checking you out. Everybody's just having a good time and that's what we're about."

"Don't be scared, don't think you're going to be judge," Mosher added. "Everyone in here is doing the best they can and it's all about movement. As long as you're moving you're keeping your heart rate up. You're going to have fun and the hour goes by fast."

The Zumba class is held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the fitness center. For more information call (325) 696-4306.
