Team Dyess conducted a Sexual Assault Prevention and Response stand-down day June 28, for servicemembers and civilian employees.

The SAPR stand-down day emphasized awareness, accountability and interactive discussion. It provided Airmen an opportunity to pause the day-to-day mission and discuss different scenarios focused on sexual assault, while fostering a climate of dignity and respect.

Col. Glen VanHerck, 7th Bomb Wing commander, held several mandatory commander's calls throughout the day, which called attention to the service-wide problem and addressed how Airmen can become part of the solution.

"We cannot tolerate sexual assault, but I can't solve it by myself - I need your help," VanHerck said. "As members of the profession of arms, we are entrusted by our nation to support and defend the constitution against all enemies, including sexual predators."

In addition to the commander's calls, units held discussion groups that focused on scenarios such as respect, bystander intervention, the wingman concept, prevention, and alcohol- and drug-induced rapes. Groups viewed several videos to jumpstart conversation and build a more active and productive session.

"It's refreshing to see Airmen engaged and providing input as to how sexual assault affects the overall mission," said Florine King, Dyess Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. "This may have been a down day for sexual assault, but our mission is to stay focused and continue the fight to work to eliminate this disease within our ranks."

The SAPR stand-down day marks a pivotal point in the movement toward a new culture that aims to rid sexual assault from the ranks. Military leaders from every level call Airmen to be part of the solution and foster an environment of dignity and respect for all.
