DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
Approximately 10 Airmen assigned to the 7th Munitions Squadron placed second in the first-ever Air Force Combat Operations Competition at Beale Air Force Base, California, June 12-14, 2018.
Their hard work and dedication in the competition was key to the team placing first in three categories.
“AFCOCOMP was designed to test multiple readiness and contingency operation skills sets of AMMO personnel,” said Maj. Clayton Seiler, 7th MUNS commander. “This event was a great opportunity to train and make our processes even better. Overall, this is a huge win for the Air Force, bringing teams to compete and up their game for what we do every day...feed the fight and kill targets.”
A total of seven teams competed against each other in the competition from Anderson Air Force Base, Guam; Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany; Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina; Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico; Luke Air Force Base, Arizona; Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; and Dyess Air Force Base, Texas.
AFCOCOMP was created to test readiness capabilities of ammo troops across the career field.
“This was a great opportunity for our team to come together and hone our skills as ammo troops,” said Master Sgt. Brandon Lee, 7th MUNS conventional maintenance section chief.
Airmen were scored by time, technical accuracy and safety while the different events in the competition simulated a deployed environment.
“Events ranged from technical bomb builds, setting up and tearing down a munitions assembly conveyor, configuring trailers, storage inspections, and forward deploying with munitions,” said Seiler. “It was a great event that provided extremely effective training while also building camaraderie and teamwork with all involved.”
The 7th MUNS is responsible for storing, maintaining and delivering quality munitions, while maintaining munitions release systems to ensure mission readiness for B-1B Lancer and C-130J Super Hercules aircraft meet the taskings of the Secretary of Defense. With this competition, they were able to gain further experience beside Airmen from other installations.
Team Dyess took home three awards after the competition; 2018 AFCOCOMP Best Overall Forward Deployment; 2018 AFCOCOMP Best Overall Storage Monitoring Inspection; and 2018 AFCOCOMP Best Overall Mac II Setup/Tear Down.
“We're all very proud of our AFCOCOMP team and their accomplishments this week,” said Seiler. “The teamwork and trust they demonstrated were showcased as they pushed for excellence at every step. At the end, this team proved that Dyess and Air Force Global Strike Command are the best at setup and teardown of the munitions assembly conveyor, conducting a storage monitoring inspection and forward deploying with munitions. Job well done!”
