The 2017 Air Force Assistance Fund kicked off at the Dyess Chapel Annex, March 24.

The AFAF campaign is a yearly event, which aids Airmen and families in their time of need. These donations help with emergencies, educational assistance and family support.

The AFAF project officers put on a free burger burn and games for Team Dyess to celebrate the event.

Col. Michael Miller, 7th Bomb Wing vice commander, gave remarks about “Airmen helping Airmen.”

“All the money earned through this effort goes to Airmen,” Miller said. “That’s what is special about this campaign and why it’s my favorite. Life throws curveballs causing our Airmen to need help.”

The four charities the donations go to are the Air Force Aid Society, General and Mrs. Curtis E. Lemay Foundation, the Air Force Village and the Air Force Enlisted Village. Each squadron has a representative who will visit work centers to talk about the charities, answer questions and accept donations.

Last year, Dyess Airmen contributed $45,300 to AFAF. Since January 2016, more than $122,000 has been given to Dyess Airmen and their families. During the 2017 campaign, the base goal is $68,550 with a reach of 100 percent participation. There is no minimum amount to qualify as a donation. Contributions will be accepted through May 5.
