DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – The 7th Bomb Wing’s emergency operations center was activated around 12:30 p.m. May 19 to discuss base fire response plans as a pre-emptive safety measure should the local Mesquite Heat Fire impact Dyess Air Force Base or its members.

“A Dyess evacuation has not been directed we are closely monitoring the situation and we are communicating with our Airmen and families in advance of conditions that may require further response,” said Col. Joseph Kramer, 7th BW and installation commander. “Right now we are prioritizing the safety of our Airmen and their Families.  We also stand ready to support our neighbors in the Big Country.  We are thankful for the local response and increased state resources put toward this effort, in order to protect the community and also the mission of Dyess.”

Team Dyess firefighters and support personnel had provided support to local first responders and the Texas A&M Forest Service since an emergency response to this fire began.

Some Armed Forces Day weekend community events, like the Big Country Airfest and Zoolute to the Troops, have been canceled.

Members should remain in close communication with their chain of command and stay tuned to the Dyess Facebook Page for real-time updates.
