Dyess has many free programs to support families of deployed members, improve base members' quality of life, and provide people with opportunities to volunteer or network. For instance:

Health and Wellness
The Health and Wellness Center has full body massage chairs and relaxing music to listen to during your massage. It's free, and anyone can use the chairs anytime the fitness center is open. Just ask at the front desk. The HAWC also offers fitness, nutrition, stress management, and tobacco cessation courses to all identification card holders. For more information, call 696-4306.

Power of attorney
If family members lose their ID card they cannot replace it without the member's permission. When a member is gone for an extended period, they may leave a legal OK to replace the card with a power of attorney. A power of attorney may also be necessary for a guardian to enroll children in school. The 7th Bomb Wing Legal office is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday on a walk in basis.

For the baby
The Family Advocacy New Parent Support Program offers a weekly playgroup for children under 3-years-old Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the base chapel. Anyone who is pregnant or has a child less than 3 years old is entitled to receive supportive and educational home visits by a registered nurse. For more information on either program, call 696-5380.

New parents can also receive a baby layette by attending the Bundles for Babies class at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. This is a seminar offered bi-monthly emphasizing on financial planning and awareness of support services available in the local area. For more information, call 696-5999.

Free counseling
The Family Advocacy Program offers free marital counseling and individual parenting counseling. The Mental Health Clinic also offers same day appointments to anyone who needs to speak with a counselor. For more information, call 696-5380.

Chaplains also provide confidential individual and family counseling dealing with any issue. For more information, call the base chapel at 696-4224.

Free child care
Military members can receive up to 16 hours of free child care per child, to be used within 30 days of returning from deployment. Up to 20 free hours of child care per child is available for all incoming and outgoing personnel as well. These hours can be used for household goods delivery, spouse job hunting, resume writing, and errands related to permanent change of station. For more information, call 696-5999.

On base volunteers are also eligible for free child care. Call the Family Child Care office at 696-2839 for more information.

Financial management counseling
The Airman and Family Readiness Center offers free personal financial management counseling to help with basic investing, financial management, and buying a car just to name a few. For more information, call 696-5999.

Shop for free
Any E-6 or below may shop at the Airman's Attic for free. You can find clothing, uniforms, dishes, household decoration, children's toys and much more. Hours of operation are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 696-2409.

Medical services
The Special Needs Identification and Assignment Coordination process identifies family members requiring special medical or educational services. Enrollment does not affect promotion and does not prevent the member from being reassigned. For more information, call 696-5380.

5/6 Club
The Dyess 5/6 Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. in the community center. Any active duty member in the grades of E-5 or E-6 may be a member of the 5/6 Club.

Club card rebates
Club members who have returned from deployment may contact the club for a rebate of all interest on purchases and fees charged to their club card during deployment in a military campaign. Call the Heritage Club at 692-9577 for more information.
Keeping in touch with deployed members
Digital and analog recording material is available for checkout in order to maintain contact with a deployed member. This includes VHS recorder, video phone, and digital cameras.

While the active duty member is deployed, family members are entitled to receive a free oil change and a safety inspection on the family vehicle.

Also, while the active duty member is deployed, family members are invited to dine at the Longhorn Dining Facility every Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. For more information these programs, call the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 696-5999.

The deploying member may sign up a desired individual to receive six, 15-minute morale calls per month via DSN. Sign up is required before deployment. For more information, call the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 696-5999.

These are just a few examples of how the Air Force and Dyess leadership are helping support Airmen and their families and improve quality of life.
