Dyess Tax Center opens for business Published Feb. 23, 2011 By Capt. Dustin Kouba 7th Bomb Wing Judge Advocate DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Dyess Tax Center is open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until April 15. Active duty, reservists, retirees, military family members and civilians attached to Dyess AFB possessing a valid U.S. Uniformed Services Identification Card can receive free tax advice, tax preparation and tax assistance, to include electronic filing, at the Dyess Tax Center, building 7235, located at 397 3rd Street. "This year we have over 40 volunteers from just about every squadron," said Col. David B. Béen, 7th Bomb Wing commander. "In fact, we've more than doubled our volunteer effort from last year. Plus, our Airmen have the convenience of getting their tax returns prepared by their unit volunteers in their own work centers or at the tax center." In order to receive tax assistance, each individual must bring the following items to the tax center: -I.D. card -Social Security cards for the individual, his or her spouse, and his or her dependents -Birth dates for the individual, his or her spouse, and his or her dependents on the tax return -2011 tax package -Wage and earning statement(s) form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R from all employers -Statements reflecting gambling losses -Interest and dividend statements from banks form 1099 -Final HUD1 if individual has purchased a new home -Copy of last year's Federal and State returns if available -Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit -Other relevant information about income and expenses for example: total amount paid for day care and day care identifying numbers To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms or have an IRS power of attorney, declaration of representation, form 2848. "The Dyess tax program provides a great benefit to Team Dyess," Colonel Béen said. "Last year, the Dyess community saved over $165,000 in filing fees. I'm confident this year's program will provide similar benefits." All tax returns are completed by appointment only.
