Dyess Airmen and families have many options when it comes to off-duty activities, and several can be found at the 7th Force Support Squadron Outdoor Recreation center - Outdoor Rec for short.

Whether it's floating down the Guadalupe River, enjoying a wet and wild day at Schlitterbahn Waterpark or dodging paintballs at the Dyess paintball course, there are endless opportunities to experience with the newly formed Outdoor Adventure program.

However, these activities only constitute a portion of the activities offered through the program.

"We want Airmen to know the Outdoor Rec offers unbelievable opportunities in our Outdoor Adventure program," said Jeffrey Herndon, Outdoor Adventure program director. "If you want to jump out of a plane at 14,000 feet - we got it. If you want to go boating and get certified - we offer that too. We consider ourselves the one-stop shop for recreation."

The possibilities for trips organized by the Outdoor Adventure program span beyond any set list or agenda to include private trips for groups or families.

"Outdoor Recreation is able to offer Airmen and their families a reduced price on many events by working closely with the Information, Tickets and Travel office and various sponsorships," said Mr. Herndon. We have several trips scheduled for the upcoming months and are looking to fill slots."

Upcoming trips include an inner-tube float on the Guadalupe River July 16 and 17, a Schlitterbahn trip package to include a helicopter fly-over July 31, as well as sky-diving and boating trips throughout the month of August.

In addition, individuals looking to lead their own exploration have the opportunity to work with Outdoor Rec in planning and organizing the event.

The Outdoor Adventure program is just one piece of the pie that Outdoor Rec has to offer. There are also lawn and garden tools, tables and chairs, sports equipment, boats, trailers, camping gear and air castles that may be rented for various occasions.
