Women from the Dyess Children Development Center here recently competed in their own biggest loser competition.

Beginning March, 12 women from the CDC came together to start a two-month long competition to see who could lose the most weight.

"We're trying to keep this going throughout the year," said Kathy Halley, CDC employee. "Somebody will say, 'let's do the weigh-in again,' then we all put $20 dollars into a pot and try to be the one to lose the most weight."

With the participants together, a Dyess Fitness Center airman weighs them at the beginning of the competition and at the end, to see who loses the most weight.
After two long months of diet and exercise, Patrice Plato came out as the biggest winner, not only for losing 18 pounds, but also winning the pot.

"My weight had been a problem for me," said Plato. "I started working out five days a week for 45 minutes. I also cut out all soda, fried food and sweets from my diet. I feel good, have a lot more energy and went down three dress sizes. I plan to keep losing weight, I'm determined."

The combined weight loss for the women was 49 pounds. The competition not only gave the women motivation to lose weight, it also gave them a chance to bond.

"I think it's about much more than the weight loss," said Kaci Harrison, chief of CDC. "It was a good opportunity for us to come together; the camaraderie of it was fun."
