Dyess' Defense Biometric Identification Systems will receive hardware and software upgrades June7 including automatic registration of every Department of Defense-issued ID card into the DBIDS database when it is first scanned at the base's entry control points.

"We will need everyone's patience and cooperation during the beginning stages of the upgrade," said Staff Sgt. Richard Acosta, 7th Security Forces Squadron NCO in-charge of DBIDS. "Once fully implemented, the task of normal registration will no longer be required."

Previously, Dyess personnel were instructed to register for DBIDS at Military Personnel Flight, Building 7233, Room 120. However, with the implementation of DBIDS 4.0, this will no longer be required.

Dyess currently has more than 22,000 personnel registered in DBIDS, to include active-duty military, reserve, guard, retirees, Department of Defense civilians and family members. There are over 200 personnel that are in Dyess' DBIDS Suspensions/Barrment/Revocation/Wants-Warrants; in turn, this provides Dyess with a additional layer of security.

"We are also connected to multiple Air Force installations' SBRW lists within the CONUS," added Acosta. "This will also allow us to filter personnel during upgraded FPCON levels during emergency situations."

The DBIDS 4.0 upgrade will result in significantly enhanced improvements on its effectiveness and security by allowing us to connect to more Air Force Instillations with 4.0 and eventually all within the CONUS," Acosta added. "Also, by adding a higher level of automation to our entry control points, it further reduces the chance of an unauthorized person gaining access to the installation."
