Whether you're looking for clothes, electronics, furniture, games or DVDs, the Dyess Thrift Store is overflowing with quality secondhand goods.

The Dyess Thrift Store, run by the Dyess Spouses' Club, provides Team Dyess a less expensive avenue for acquiring new and used items.

"When you get a chance to look around the store, you will notice we have just about anything you could be looking for and at can't-be-beat prices," said Cristie Arnold, Dyess Thrift Store manager.

The store's items are mainly acquired through donation, but consignments are also accepted and can be conveniently tracked on the store's website.

"Most items are generally donated to the shop but we also offer consignment deals for anyone looking to sell their items," Arnold said. "However, the greatest feature about the Thrift Shop is that 100 percent of our proceeds go directly back to Dyess and the local community."

In 2011, the Thrift Store raised more than $17,000 that went directly toward supporting local high school seniors in the form of college scholarships, as well as multiple charities and organizations.

"The money we raise goes to the Dyess Spouses' Club and is then redistributed to various organizations and charities," Arnold said. "The proceeds go to everything from college scholarships for Dyess dependents, to the base library, to organizations such as the Dyess Food Pantry and Air Force Village."

The store, located on 4th Ave in building 6119, is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Anyone with a military or Department of Defense identification card is allowed to shop.

Furthermore, the store is always looking for volunteers to lend a helping hand. Anyone interested in volunteering for the store can e-mail Cristie Arnold at cristie.arnold@gmail.com.
