7th CMS receives new avionics test station

DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  The 7th Component Maintenance Squadron received a new avionics test station Feb. 11, a modernized version of the upgraded system test bench for the B-1 Bomber.

The new test station has the capability to evaluate the Common Radar Processor and Modular Receiver Exciter, two new components of the B-1 offensive radar system. The CoRP and MoRE must be evaluated for the aircraft to fly.

"The test bench we received analyzes the B-1s new MoRE and CoRP units," said Master Sgt. Kevin Travier, 7TH CMS. "Something we were unable to analyze on the old benches."

The unique test station is one of only four in the Air Force. In addition to the one here, two will be used at Ellsworth AFB, S.D., and one at the depot repair facility at Tinker AFB, Okla.

"A few Airmen will receive two weeks of training by a factory technician to ensure every Airman is capable of operating the new equipment," Travier said. "The trained Airmen will train the rest of the technicians in the flight."
Furthermore, using the new test station decreases man hours and money needed for repairs and parts. There is a projected 400 percent increase in reliability for the new equipment, decreasing the demand for constant repairs.

"Not only does the new equipment have the capability to repair the new units, but it will also decrease the amount of repairs that were needed in previous years," Travier said. "Last year we repaired 212 units on the old test bench, with the new equipment being brand new and up to date, that many repairs will not be necessary."
