C-130s make historic take-off from Dyess taxiway
DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas - A C-130 takes off from Dyess' taxiway Sept. 24. After the main runway on base was closed for about 60 days for repair and 20 B-1s were relocated, the taxiway here was repainted and lighting was moved to make it usable to the 317th Airlift Group's Hercs stationed here. This transition to using a taxiway for daily operations is a historic move for the Air Mobility Command aircraft, but the "trash haulers" of the sky are designed to be able to land on small areas, even dirt strips when necessary, making the change an easy one for Dyess.
