Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr. hosted Indonesian Air Chief Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo for an official counterpart visit May 19 to affirm the strong and enduring U.S.-Indonesia strategic partnership.

As part of the visit, Fadjar received a full honors arrival and was awarded a Legion of Merit at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, attended both an office call with Brown and staff talks at the Pentagon, and participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

During their office call, Brown commended the Indonesian Air Force for the critical role it played supporting Indonesian civil authorities in response to the coronavirus. The two leaders also discussed Indonesia’s defense modernization initiatives, including Indonesia’s proposed F-15IDN aircraft procurement and upgrades to existing platforms, and how an air component can enable greater maritime domain awareness.

Brown thanked Fadjar for his efforts in support of the
Cope West 2021 bilateral exercise in Indonesia and underscored the importance of exercises to readiness and interoperability. Brown also expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s robust participation in professional military education courses at Air University, emphasizing the invaluable perspectives that Indonesian students provide to the classrooms.

Brown praised Indonesia’s regional leadership and conveyed how a strong U.S.-Indonesia defense relationship promotes regional and global security. This relationship is based on common interests and values, as well as a mutual desire to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Prior to his engagements in the
National Capital Region, Fadjar visited the U.S. Air Force Academy May 17 to meet with the university’s first Indonesian cadet. A second Indonesian cadet is set to attend the class of 2026. Fadjar also met with Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall at the Pentagon, May 20.
