Mission
The mission of the USAF Honor Guard is to REPRESENT Airmen to the American Public and the World.
Colors
The Colors display and guard the United States flag, the Air Force flag, and flags of the many visiting dignitaries' countries.
Body Bearers
The Body Bearers personally escort and carry remains to burial sites, folding the flag for presentation to next-of-kin. The Body Bearers also serve in the Awards Bearer and Wreath Bearer capacities for many ceremonies throughout the NCR.
Firing Party
The Firing Party performs the firing of three volleys (commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as the "21-gun salute"). These seven-man teams fire three rounds in perfect unison honoring the fallen.
Training
The Honor Guard operates an AETC-curriculum Technical Training School, which is located on-site. This school runs the 8-week basic technical training course for all newly assigned members as well as the 10-day in-residence/mobile training team course for base honor guards across the Air Force. Training also emcompasses the Standardization & Evaluation section, USAF Honor Guard Recruiting and Force Development. |
